Updated: Leigh Folk Festival
The Woebegone Brothers
The Woebegone Brothers

THIS year's Leigh Folk Festival is being hailed the best ever, with thousands of people enjoying open-air music, dancing and family fun.

Organiser Paul Collier said: "It has been terrific. This year has gone very much to plan.

"The weather has been on our side and we had a good turnout for everything, better than we've ever had. The atmosphere has been great."

The event, now in its 17th year, offered one of its strongest musical line-ups yet, including Rachel Unthank and the Winterset, Mawkin-Causley, Nancy Kerry, James Fagan and Rachel Harrington playing at various venues around Leigh.

There were also belly dancers, Morris men, Punch and Judy, circus skills workshops and barn dancing.

Most of Saturday's events were in Leigh Library Gardens, with acts like Slow Loris and the Woebegone Brothers, while on Sunday the festival switched to the Old Town, where events included a colourful procession led by the Westcliff Piping Society.

Click Comment and add your views. Which acts did you enjoy? What was the atmosphere like?
